Tajikistan joins World Trade Organization on 2 March 2013

August 1, 2013

On 2 March 2013, Tajikistan became the 159th World Trade Organization (WTO) member.

The WTO formally approved Tajikistan’s membership package on 10 December 2012.

As part of the membership package, Tajikistan would apply its domestic taxes in a non-discriminatory manner to imports, regardless of country of origin, and to domestic products.

Furthermore, it will bind import tariffs to a maximum rate, eliminate existing duties, taxes, fees and charges applied to exports (and not introduce new ones), with approximately 300 listed exceptions.

Export licensing requirements, quantitative restrictions and other export control requirements would be brought in line with WTO provisions.
